The Clinton Art Gallery’s Poetry Place

July 18, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

On Sunday, July 21, The Clinton Art Gallery’s Poetry Place is delighted to host a reading by Connecticut poets Denise Abercrombie and Jonathan Andersen. This fourth reading in the gallery’s highly successful 2019 Sunday Series will take place in the Laurel Ann Olcott Art Center at 20 East Main Street in the heart of Clinton, beginning at 2.00 PM.

The Poetry Place Sunday Series is celebrating its fourth year of featuring readings by Connecticut’s best poets, as well as a popular open mic, from April through November. Each year, the Sunday Series draws both regular attendees and those new to the Clinton Art Gallery, for an entertaining afternoon of excellent poetry by the featured readers and a rich variety of local poets sharing their work at the open mic. In addition to hearing fine poetry, the audience has the opportunity to browse through a rich display of arts and crafts for sale at the gallery, and gather information about the many writing and art workshops offered at the gallery throughout the year. The reading is free and open to the public, and audience members are encouraged to come early, as seating is limited. Wine, cool drinks, snacks, and sweets will be served, and books will be available for sale and signing following the reading.

Denise Abercrombie’s writing has appeared in Minnesota Review, Fireweed, Connecticut Review, Common Ground Review, Phoebe: Journal of Feminist Scholarship, Theory and Aesthetics, The Lumberyard: A Radio Magazine, Struggle, Writing on the Edge, and other journals. Denise teaches creative writing, theater, and American literature and serves as director of English at E.O. Smith High School. She occasionally performs and directs original and existing works with Stage Left Ensemble in small theaters, cafes, and prisons. Denise and her husband, the poet Jon Andersen, live in Storrs and help coordinate the Curbstone Foundation’s Poetry in the Park series.
